The standard way to record a meeting in 2026 is to let a cloud notetaker send a bot into it. Record meetings responsibly
Vowen doesn't notify the other participants — you're recording on your own computer — so consent is on you. Recording laws vary: some places require everyone's consent, others just one party's. Does Vowen join the meeting as a bot?
No. Vowen records from your computer — your microphone plus the meeting audio coming through your speakers. Nothing appears in the participant list, and there's nothing to admit into the call. That's also why it works identically across Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, Webex, and in-person meetings.
Can I record a meeting if I'm not the host?
Yes. Platform recorders are typically host-gated and plan-gated; Vowen isn't part of the meeting platform, so those gates don't apply. It records on your machine regardless of who's hosting. Get consent from the people in the meeting — being able to record isn't the same as being cleared to.
Where do the recordings go?
They're stored locally on your Mac or Windows computer. You can replay any meeting inside Vowen, export the audio file, and export the transcript or notes as text, Markdown, or PDF. Nothing is uploaded unless you explicitly turn on an optional cloud feature.
Does it record the other people in the call, or just me?
Both. Vowen captures your microphone and the system audio — the sound of the other participants coming out of your computer — so the full conversation is on the recording and in the transcript.
Does it work for in-person meetings?

How is this different from Otter, Fireflies, or Fathom?
