Why dictate

Why dictate to Claude Code

Coding with an agent is a conversation. Vowen lets you have that conversation out loud — wherever Claude Code runs.

Speak prompts faster than you type

Describe the change you want out loud. Talking through a refactor or a bug fix is far quicker than typing a long prompt by hand.

Works in your terminal and your IDE

Vowen runs system-wide, so it drops text wherever your cursor is — the Claude Code terminal, your editor's integrated terminal, or any other window.

Clean, formatted prompts

Vowen turns rambling speech into clear, punctuated text. Your prompts to the agent read like you wrote them carefully, not like a raw voice memo.

How it works

From spoken idea to shipped diff

No setup beyond installing Vowen. It works system-wide, so it slots straight into the workflow you already have with Claude Code.

  1. 1

    Press your Vowen hotkey

Focus the Claude Code prompt — in your terminal or your IDE's integrated terminal — and hold your global Vowen hotkey.

  2. 2

    Describe the change you want

Say it the way you'd explain it to a teammate: the file, the behavior, the edge cases. No need to phrase it like a command.

  3. 3

Clean text lands at your cursor

Release the hotkey and Vowen drops formatted, ready-to-send text right where you were typing — no copy-paste, no app switching.

  4. 4

    Claude Code writes the code

Send the prompt and let the agent do the work. Read the diff, then dictate your next instruction the same way.

Common questions.

Still deciding? Ask us anything.

How does Vowen work with Claude Code?
Vowen runs system-wide and types into whatever app has focus. There's no special integration to set up — you place your cursor in the Claude Code prompt, hold your Vowen hotkey, speak, and Vowen inserts the transcribed text right there. It works the same way it does in any other app.
Does it work in the terminal and in IDEs?
Yes. Because Vowen inserts text at your active cursor anywhere on your system, it works in standalone terminals as well as the integrated terminals inside editors. If you can type into it, you can dictate into it.
Do I need an internet connection?
No. Vowen can transcribe on-device, so your dictation stays on your machine and works offline. You're free to dictate prompts to Claude Code even without a connection.
Which platforms are supported?
Vowen is available on macOS, Windows, and Linux, so you can dictate to Claude Code from whichever machine you code on.
Will my spoken prompts come out clean?
Yes. Vowen removes filler words and adds punctuation and formatting, so a spoken instruction turns into a clear, well-structured prompt rather than a raw transcript.
Is it free to try?
Yes. Vowen has a free tier that doesn't expire, so you can download it and start dictating prompts to Claude Code without an account or a trial clock.
