An honest note on HIPAA & compliance
Vowen is general-purpose dictation software — not a certified medical or HIPAA-compliant product, and we don't currently offer a Business Associate Agreement (BAA). Because transcription can run entirely on your device, your audio doesn't have to be sent anywhere — but you remain responsible for handling protected health information (PHI) according to your organization's policies. If you work with PHI, confirm your setup with your compliance team and keep optional cloud AI features off unless they've been approved.

Is Vowen HIPAA compliant?
Vowen is general-purpose dictation software, not a certified HIPAA product, and we don't offer a BAA today. That said, transcription can run entirely on your device, so your audio doesn't have to leave your machine. If you handle PHI, follow your organization's policies and check with your compliance team before use.
Can Vowen understand medical terminology?
Yes. You can add medical terms — drug names, procedures, abbreviations, and specialist vocabulary — to Vowen's custom dictionary, and it remembers them so they transcribe correctly instead of being guessed.
Does Vowen work with my EHR?
Vowen types wherever your cursor is, so it works in web-based EHR fields and any other text box without a dedicated integration. If you can click into a field and type, you can dictate into it.
Is my dictation sent to the cloud?
Not by default. Vowen uses on-device models for transcription out of the box. Cloud AI features are optional and only active if you enable them with your own API key.
