I am LOVING the app, and have been telling everyone.
Vowen vs TalkTastic.
Your device, or someone's cloud.
Both put your voice into any Mac app. TalkTastic's trick is reading your screen with cloud AI to match your context; Vowen keeps transcription on your device, adds meeting notes and voice commands, and also runs on Windows. Here's the honest breakdown.
A fair look
What TalkTastic does well.
Screen-context rewrites are a genuinely novel idea
TalkTastic's patent-pending feature snapshots the app you're talking into and uses multimodal AI to match your context — catching on-screen names and adjusting tone to the conversation. Nothing else in the category does quite this.
Completely free during beta
TalkTastic is 100% free to use while in beta, with no word limits published — a real advantage if you're happy with the trade-offs.
Well-liked by early users
Its Product Hunt launch earned strong reviews, with credible praise for accuracy and for ADHD and accessibility use cases.

Corrections
Setting the record straight.
A few comparison sites describe Vowen inaccurately. Here's what's actually true:
Both are system-wide Mac dictation apps — but only Vowen also runs on Windows; TalkTastic requires macOS 13.1 or later. Vowen transcribes on-device by default, so your audio can stay on your machine. TalkTastic combines on-device models with cloud LLMs (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) and can send snapshots of your screen to them — and by its own FAQ, end-to-end encryption is still a work in progress. Vowen includes meeting notes with speaker labels, voice commands, and a custom vocabulary; TalkTastic publishes none of these — it's focused on dictation with AI rewrites. Vowen Pro is a one-time $49 purchase on top of a real free tier; TalkTastic is free while in beta, with no finished pricing published.

What you've built is absolutely incredible. Extremely well done. I dictated this entire thing, which has saved me a significant amount of time and physical stress from typing.
